To
see an entire chest in Birdseye Maple is wonderful for the eye to behold!
The rich figure of the oil finished wood creates ever changing patterns
with shifting angles of light. A narrow inlay of Purpleheart
adds interesting contrast to the lid. Scroll down for a close-up near bottom

Counter
balanced hinges allow easy access into family keepsakes. Lid remains
up on your cedar chest until you close it.

With
so many options to choose from, it's easy to make your cedar chest a special
one. For durability Shawn chose our French style wooden top. Two support
rails are added for strength. The center is a floating panel so wood may
adjust to changes in humidity over the seasons, yet remain flat. To assist
in lifting this heavy chest, a solid trim rail has been glued, then secured
with plugged screws onto the box.

To
keep things together, Shawn chose the half blind dovetail joint that you
see in fine furniture that has stood the test of time.
A half blind dovetail joint does not show on one face so as not to break the line in the design and look of the front of the chest yet adds the mechanical strength necessary for this piece.

Engraved
brass nameplates and English locks are only two of the many options available
in making your treasured keepsake.
Another feature is the finger groove for easy opening.. |
||
Shawn chose
a full size cedar tray, which is divided by handles for easy
lifting and organizing. We leave aromatic cedar unfinished on the inside
of chests to allow for its full aroma, valued for protecting woolens from
moths.

A clasp
of a Birdseye Maple panel shows the selection of large and small patterns
for rich eye appeal

The original base, dovetailed in this chest, sits squarely on the floor. The half blind dovetail joint adds strength to last for generations. |

A beautiful close-up of the lid shows the solid Purpleheart inlay Shawn chose as a visually pleasing contrast to the intricate birdseye figures. |
